Manila, Philippines 03/10/2008: The pay is very good in Sykes (Manila), the benefits above average. However, I can't say the same for Sykes Management. Most of them got the top jobs without coming from the bottom of the food chain, so their decisions are plain illogical. They don't know what they're talking about when they talk to the US clients. Oh my gosh.
Because we are located in Manila, we usually have to work in the night shift. Apparently they can't get any clients from the Asia Pacific region so we have to turn ourselves into nocturnal creatures. They force you to come to work even though you have already explained that your area has been hit by a disaster; they wouldn't care.
People are not valuable resources for them. They think that they can just hire any bum off the street and then train that person to do technical support work for major US companies. Then they fire that person, and then train another bum from who knows where.
Office politics is a major issue here. If you like to kiss ass (especially the senior directors), then you're on your way to success. They would even make sure that your tracks get covered if you decide to steal stuff from Sykes, or basically do anything illegal. You kiss ass, so that's enough to get you off the hook.
