BPI still holds the record as the largest bank in terms of market capitalization in the Philippines (P136 billion = US$3.24 billion as of March 2008), and has consistently been the most profitable bank in the Philippines. It is owned by the Ayala Corporation - the largest conglomerate in the Philippines, and is based in Makati City's Central Business District, on the corner of Ayala Avenue and Paseo de Roxas, across from the Philippine headquarters of HSBC.

BPI is also the oldest bank in Southeast Asia and has a long and distinguished history that spans over a century. It has either influenced or has been influenced by many nations, including parts of the former Spanish Empire, especially Mexico, and the United States. While it is considered by many as an old institution, BPI is trying, with moderate success, to promote itself as a dynamic institution that caters to its various clients, which hail from various sectors of Philippine society.

BPI also pioneered rural banking in the Philippines, as its countryside banking operations preceded that of many other banks' rural banking operations by many years. Today, it maintains a large rural branch network, with some branches dating bank to the Spanish or American colonial periods. Its branch network of 830 branches is by far the largest branch network of any bank in the Philippines.

The bank has received several awards from various financial magazines, such as Euromoney and the Far Eastern Economic Review. Its most recent award was for the best retail bank in the Philippines in 2005.

Asian Development Bank

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is a regional development bank established in 1966 to promote economic and social development in Asian and Pacific countries through loans and technical assistance. It is a multilateral development financial institution owned by 67 members, 48 from the region and 19 from other parts of the globe. ADB's vision is a region free of poverty. Its mission is to help its developing member countries reduce poverty and improve the quality of life of their citizens.

The work of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is aimed at improving the welfare of the people in Asia and the Pacific, particularly the 1.9 billion who live on less than $2 a day. Despite many success stories, Asia and the Pacific remains home to two thirds of the world's poor.

The bank was conceived with the vision of creating a financial institution that would be "Asian in character" to foster growth and cooperation in a region that back then was one of the world's poorest. ADB raises funds through bond issues on the world's capital markets, while also utilizing its members' contributions and earnings from lending. These sources account for almost three quarters of its lending operations.

Although recent economic growth in many member countries have led to a change in emphasis to some degree, throughout most of its history the bank has operated on a project basis, specifically in the areas of infrastructure investment, agricultural development and loans to basic industries in member countries. Although by definition the bank is a lender to governments and government entities, it also provides direct assistance to private enterprises and has also participated as a liquidity enhancer and best practice enabler in the private sectors of regional member countries.

The primary human capital asset of the bank is its staff of professionals, encompassing academic and/or practical experts in the areas of agriculture, civil engineering, economics, environment, health, public policy and finance. Professional staff are drawn from its member countries and given various incentives to relocate to Manila.

It is conceivable that once all of Asia-Pacific reaches a certain level of living standard the bank will be wound down or reconfigured to operate as a commercial enterprise.

Ayala Corporation

FinanceAsia, a regional magazine on Asian financial markets, recently named Ayala Corporation as the Best Company in the Philippines in the Asia’s Best Companies 2002 survey. Ayala Corporation won the top spot in two categories: Overall Best Company and Company Most Committed to Corporate Governance.

The survey, which will be disclosed in full in the April issue of FinanceAsia magazine, was conducted among institutional investors and equity analysts from around the globe. It covers the performance of the top companies in 10 countries in Asia. In the Philippines, Ayala Corporation led as Overall Best Company, earning 50 out of 331 votes, or 15 percent of all votes. It was followed by San Miguel Corporation, which received 36 votes, and SM Prime Holdings, with 34 votes. Other companies in the Overall Best Company category were Jollibee Foods Corporation, Globe Telecom, Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT), and Ayala Land.

Ayala Group companies figured prominently in all categories. Ayala Corp. ranked first in the category Company most committed to Corporate Governance with 61 votes, followed by PLDT with 25 votes. In the same category, BPI, Globe, and Ayala Land placed third, sixth, and eighth respectively. Ayala Corp., Globe, and BPI also ranked high in Best in Investor Relations.

Ayala Corp. was ranked second best in Best Financial Management, bested by San Miguel by only one vote. Other firms which rated highly were Globe, SM Prime, PLDT, BPI, Jollibee and Ayala Land, which tied with JG Summit in eighth place. Globe Telecom’s Delfin Gonzales was named Best Chief Financial Officer. Globe Telecom’s commitment to enhancing shareholder value was also recognized as third best among the country’s top companies. It was followed closely by Jollibee, Ayala Corp. and BPI.

Ayala Corporation recently announced a new strategy aimed at delivering increased shareholder value over the medium-term. Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, president and CEO of Ayala Corp., explained that the company needs to be much more active in the management of its portfolio and that it needs to focus on building new businesses more aggressively. The company is potentially looking at structurally attractive industries in the Philippines where it feels it can achieve a position of leadership, as well as some select overseas exposure.

Explained Zobel: “We need to be much more active in how we manage our portfolio. We will not just hold businesses on an ‘as is’ basis. In this fast changing world, we will need to be prepared to constantly change our strategic stake in each of our existing businesses – bring in new partners, build regional and even global alliances, merge businesses with others. We need to be more open minded about how businesses evolve, more focused on value creation, and more prepared to forfeit control where doing so is best for the business.”

Zobel said this new strategy entails the creation of a new division within Ayala Corporation. Internally known as AC Capital, the new division has taken over responsibility for all domestic non-listed subsidiaries and will manage these businesses as a separate portfolio. AC Capital will be charged with finding new and creative ways for Ayala Corp. to create more value from each of these businesses and will also be the vehicle which will drive its new business building efforts.

Smart Communications

This will be the first of the nth-part series about companies, based on first-hand experience and hear-says. Please, the reviews that I'm about to give in this series is just my opinion.

Ok, nung una kong narinig ang smart sabi nila.. ok daw ang pay dyan.. mataas.. at ang laki.. imagine 21th month BONUS (200+ thousand every december isang bagsak!) and matratrain ka talaga.. so syempre na-excite ang lola nyo.. but I had a single company in mind so hindi ko masyado sineryoso.

IT summit, ok.. mukhang may budget.. the inspirational talks lasted for 2 hours.. and their product promotions.. around 4 hours? at nagsimula na ang pagkabwisit ng mga tao (lalo na ako)

Sinasabi nila "Congratulations! You exceeded our qualifications and expectations but we're sorry to tell you that we have no vacancies" (sa mga failed) at "Good day! You have been shortlisted in our vacancies"(sa mga passed). O dba?

No baka iniisip nyo kaya ako ganito dahil hindi ako pumasa. I passed the screening kahit ginago ko ang interview (dahil hindi ko nga sila gusto)

Heto.. kanina interview sa makati! SOWS! Napaaga ako ng punta pero bawal pumasok sa loob pag hindi mo pa time (so mega hintay ako sa labas! at umupo sa tabitabi na parang tanga) tapos yung guard!!!!! yung guard!!!! pinagkamalan pa akong nag shoplift.. (as if naman na may kukunin ako)

TAPOS yung HR! natapos na ang pag-exam namin at lahat wala man lang sinabi after.. hay nako...
basta...

iba din yung dating sa kanila...

hearsay: patayan ang trabaho.. totoong you'll work 24/7 365/12

so ayun.. 2 cents lang

Hewlett Packard (HP)

Pero worth it.
It usually takes from 1-6 months bago ka mapansin.

Submitted resume thru mail, *ehem thanks tj*
got a call within a week (that was fast siguro nag improve na sila).

Parang fountain of youth daw..

Hindi nag job-hop after she got an offer.. proof lang na when you get to HP you'd want to stay in HP.

Si manong guard nga pala tsaka ung isang nagtratrabaho dun nung nag-aapply ako mabait, inalok pa ko ng kape at milo.. (UNLIKE SMART! MGA BASTOS! MGA BASTOS TALAGA! PARANG HINDI AKO TAO! PINAUPO AKO SA KALSADA!)

Interview process?

so ayun.. sabi nila if you know how to invent, work for HP.
LoLz.. invent!

Ayun lang 2 cents ko lang din ulit.

Accenture

Galante sa applicants.. I was blessed enough to be part of their Student Leadership Conference 2007 and AEP.NET 2007.. (Internship)

Magaling yung mga nagturo samin.. at magagaling din ang mga tao.. maganda daw at matratrain ka dito. yun nga lang hindi kalakihan ang basic salary mo lalo na't fresh grad.. pero mabilis daw ang growth mo.. magiging x200% in a year's time.. hindi ka din mabobore dahil sa paiba iba kang technology ilalagay.

Yun nga lang may something sa accenture na hindi ko mapoint.. parang may something..not right. Haha.. I know several people who work there but not happy, if I ask them the reason. "Di ko alam eh, basta hindi lang masaya" There must be that something kung bakit hindi sila masaya. Pero hindi ko naman nilalahat.

Meron din namang mga tao na masaya sa pagkakalagay nila sa Accenture ngayon. Malaki syang company and very stable.

cons? 100k 2 year bond!!!! Pero heller?! Sino aalis ng company in less than a year? Job-hoppers lang yun..

2 cents ko lang

Trend Micro

Politics. Politics. Politics.
People there are immature.
Kadiri.
Grabe.

Want proof?
http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31781&page=39

It's a thread with the title "Is trend micro a great company?"

and then instead of praises, benefits, and good things about the company. There is nothing in that thread but blind items and warfare.

Why? Don't they have the balls to just fight it out personally? My oh my para talaga silang mga bata.. nakakadiri asal nila.
Nakaka turn-off.

2 cents lang po.
